ATLANTIC

ATLANTIC

Northern Times Oct 27th 1854

Arrival of U.S.M.S. ATLANTIC, yesterday afternoon, she left New York on the 14th inst with 195 passengers.

News New York, 14th inst

By arrival from Montreal of the ship CAMBRIA we are advised of the safety of Capt LUCE of the ARCTIC, Mr ALLEN of New York and James SMITH of Edinburgh who were picked up by the vessel together with about 40 passengers.

Several statements made relative to the loss of the ARCTIC

Dobbin CARNAGHAN, Fireman

States, Mr GOURLIE, Officer got off with one of the boats and made for the Frenchman, Mr BAALHAM, 2nd Officer got off with another boat, Mr DORIAN, 3rd Officer got off on a small boat and was working to get spars lashed together and empty casks secured to them.

As the ship went down CARNAGHAN jumped overboard and got into DORIAN’S boat.

The last man they took off the vessel was Richard MC KIM, Fireman who has gone to Quebec in the HURON. They also came ACROSS Peter MC CABE, Waiter lashed to one of the spars, 26hrs after the ARTIC went down they were taken on board the HURON.

Mr DORIAN states that in respect of Mrs E. K. COLLINS and family, at the time he left the vessel they were still on board and he had moments before asked Mr BURNS whether Mrs COLLINS had been furnished with a life preserve, to which Mr BURNS replied, she had. Therefore the ladies Mr BAAHLAM saw precipitated out of the boat were not Mrs and Miss COLLINS.

A statement was also made by Peter MC CABE, Waiter, aged 24, a native of Dublin, but who had lived in Liverpool for the last 7/8yrs.
